What Graduate Engineer Work is all about.

Graduate engineer may have some practical work experience because he or she may not have yet earned the engineering license or the other essential credentials necessary to allow for independent, unsupervised, or consultative engineering work. Graduate engineer jobs are in essence the entry level roles within the engineering industry and are generally held by recent college graduates.

Graduates still perform work within the engineering profession such as  mechanical engineering, to aerospace, to civil, electrical or chemical engineering.

Graduate engineers generally perform product design and testing activities. They can be involved in the collection of data and analysis of that data. They may also work in the design of manufacturing processes. Most will create computer or 3d models which will be used to test designs for strength, efficiency and durability.

Graduate jobs in the engineering sector are responsible for collecting information on currently running production lines at different kind of manufacturing facilities. They analyze data at different work sites, power plants, and other businesses to determine the efficiency of current operations and to establish methods for improving or bettering the processes and practices that are currently in place.

Although graduates are directly involved in the collection, analysis and reporting of process and performance data, they are not considered qualified to give feedback independently. The data they collect and the observations they make are reported to their direct superior, who is usually an experienced senior engineer. The supervisor is then responsible for determining the validity of that data and observations and reporting that information and any associated recommendations to management.

Graduates can work for any variety of employers. They can be employed by architectural or design companies. They may work in labs or manufacturing facilities. They can be employed by government agencies, power companies, and any number of other businesses or organizations. It really just all depends upon the area of focus for the graduate engineer as to where he or she will end up working.

Graduate engineers are not allowed to perform the work of licensed engineers, as they have yet to achieve their own license or other credentials. They cannot perform design work in some cases, while in others they are required to have a second signature - that of a certified senior engineer - in order to produce functional designs.

As graduate engineer jobs are the entry level in the field of engineering, the graduate engineer must eventually move to the next level. That next level is achieved through the earning of an engineer's license. The license is granted upon successful completion of the professional engineering exam.
